As a student in this modernized world, technology is a staple of my life. Every part of my daily routine could be somehow connected to technology: awakening in the morning from the alarm set on my phone, checking my social media accounts for new assignments during breakfast, riding the jeepney on my way to school, and through and through. I believe that along with humanity’s advancement come a whole new range of challenges. With all of the previous problems solved by the greatest people, it is now up to us to make use of the information they imparted to go beyond the limits and set new standards. Information, nowadays, is much more important than any tangible asset a good company can offer. And with such progress in science, machinery, engineering and many others, information technology has also improved.
In its essence, information technology refers to the storage, retrieval, communication and transmission of data. As time passes, the importance of information technology is becoming more prominent. Dissemination of information has come a long way from physical delivery of mail to accessing knowledge with just a tip of your finger. For me, a student, internet is very handy when I want to access stuff I want to know. Internet is like an infinite library of knowledge, a significant tool to spread knowledge and information. Furthermore, it has been very easy for me to communicate with my friends and my relatives who live far away and know how they are doing.
As much as IT is advantageous, I think it is also important that we are aware of its drawbacks. Sometimes, as much as technology somehow brings the world closer to us, it may take us away from ourselves. Social media can distort our perception and bring us more anxiety. We could be a victim or an initiator of cyber-bullying. Indeed, information technology is an opportunity for us all, but we can only use it just enough before it becomes too much.
